Mexican Primera Division side Santos Laguna have entered talks with Celtic over a possible link-up between the two teams, reports STV Sport.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell confirmed to STV Sport that discussions had begun between the two parties.
“We haven’t reach agreement yet but discussions are ongoing with Santos Laguna,” Lawwell said.
The chief executive said that commercial and marketing initiatives were being proposed and that the partnership could also include movement of players between the sides.
“On the back of signing Efrain Juarez ,there is huge interest in Mexico in Glasgow Celtic and this could be another step in us promoting the Celtic name,” Lawwell added.
Santos have confirmed their interest in the link-up on their official website, with club president Alejandro Iragorri pointing out similarities between the clubs. Aside from the fact that both clubs play in green and white, Iragorri said there were “shared philosophies, foundations and objectives.
The Mexican club are currently top of their group in the Mexican Apertura Championship. They last won the league in 2008, having lifted the title on three occasions since their formation in 1982.

All but one of 12 rioting hooligans will be going to jail for their part in the destruction of Manchester.
They were among hundreds of Rangers fans who caused "mayhem" at the UEFA Cup final held in the city two years ago.
Police were attacked and property damaged in the hours of violence in the city centre, and two police officers - Mick Regan and John Goodwin - were caught by the mob, surrounded and battered.
Judge Andrew Blake had indicated 11 of the 12 were going to jail and had sentenced eight of the defendants before a fire alarm caused Manchester Crown Court to be evacuated temporarily.
Several defendants put thumbs up to weeping relatives in the public gallery as they were led down to the cells.

Francis Dickoh says Celtic had a sloppy attitude in their Europa League hammering from Utrecht, reports the Scottish Sun.
Dickoh has signed a one-year deal at Easter Road after four years with Utrecht and the Ghanaian international accused Neil Lennon's men of believing they had done enough in the first leg to progress.
The Denmark-born 27-year-old said: "Utrecht are still celebrating their win over Celtic. It was a great win, especially when they lost 2-0 away. I think Celtic came with a sloppy attitude, thinking that it was already done. We felt as if we could still go through after the first-leg because, in terms of football, we were equal.
"Celtic had more tempo and more physical aspects to their game and that shocked a lot of players who were a bit inexperienced at inter-national level.
"The whole atmosphere at Celtic Park was overwhelming for some players, I think.
"At home, Utrecht knew they could do something and to get two penalties within 20 minutes helped a lot.
"I was definitely happy for the team.
"It was a good dressing room and I made not only good colleagues but good friends at Utrecht.
"Marc-Antoine Fortune is a good friend and obviously I spoke with him before I came here.
"Obviously I have to adapt to the tempo and the intensity of the training, I had my first day on Thursday, but it met my expectations.
"I like to give 100 per cent, combined with football along the grass.
"I don't like to play too many long balls but when they come, obviously I'm a defender, so I'll try to go for the aerial balls as well."
Celtic boss Neil Lennon is satisfied with Celtic's transfer activity over the summer.
Having been named permanent manager in June, Lennon set about strengthening his squad considerably in a bid to wrestle the SPL title off Rangers.
Anthony Stokes was the final player to arrive before the transfer deadline on Tuesday, although Lennon admits he would have liked to bring in at least one more fresh face.
The Bhoys may have already been knocked out of Europe but Lennon is now looking forward to working hard with his players once the international break is over.
He said: "I am pretty happy. We got Anthony Stokes in on the last day of the window, so I am very pleased about that.
"I would have liked another one player, but these things are there to test you.
"We knocked on doors a few times, but were refused and there's not a lot you can do about that.
"But that's the window shut now and hopefully we will be able to settle things down and work with the squad - although, unfortunately at the minute, most of the squad are away on international duty."
